Kyle Larson Wins ESPY For "Best Driver" Of 2021

Kyle Larson did so much winning in 2021, that even in July of 2022 he’s still being recognized for that phenomenal year. Larson won his first ESPY Award on Wednesday night when he was named “Best Driver” for 2021.

The “ESPYs” is an ESPN/ABC award show that recognizes the top athletes and teams in the sporting world. The 2022 edition took place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater.

Larson was nominated against Max Verstappen (Formula One), Steve Torrence (NHRA), and Alex Palou (IndyCar).

The Elk Grove, California driver’s 2021 season was one for the history books. He kicked off the year with his second Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in January and carried that momentum to 10 NASCAR Cup Series victories, including the Coca-Cola 600 and NASCAR All-Star Race, his first NASCAR Cup Series championship, his first Kings Royal and Knoxville Nationals victories with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series, a Prairie Dirt Classic win in a dirt Late Model, and much more. In alll, Larson scored 33 victories in 2021 across a wide variety of disciplines.

In typical Kyle Larson fashion, Larson was not in attendance to receive his award in person. Instead, Larson was in victory lane at Pennsylvania’s Port Royal Speedway celebrating a win against the World of Outlaws in a Sprint Car.
