It's not often that a grassroots race car driver has the chance to win $100,000. This week, it's possible that a 410 Sprint Car driver could walk away from Skagit Speedway's Dirt Cup with a rare six-figure payday. 

The 50th running of the Dirt Cup begins with preliminary action on Thursday and Friday night, setting the stage for a $50,000-to-win main event on Saturday. In addition to the $50,000 guaranteed to the winner, $50,000 in lap money will be up for grabs in the 50-lap feature race. 

This means that if a driver leads every lap of Saturday's A-Main, they will leave Skagit Speedway with one-hundred grand. 

While the $50,000 purse alone makes the event a top-tier Sprint Car event, the lap money on the line makes the Dirt Cup one of the richest Sprint Car races of the 2022 season. 

The money on the line this week trails only a handful of 410 Sprint Car events, including the $175,000-to-win Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway, the $150,000-to-win (plus $1,000 per lap) Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway, $100,000-to-win Historical Big 1 at Eldora, $100,000-to-win High Bank Nationals at Huset's Speedway and $75,000-to-win National Open at Williams Grove Speedway. 

With big money on the line, this week's event has attracted some of the biggest stars in Sprint Car racing. In addition to west coast stars like Dominic Scelzi and Shane Golobic, the event has caught the attention of national stars such as defending Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions champion Tyler Courtney.

All Star Circuit of Champions stars Zeb Wise and Cory Eliason will join the fun as Rudeen Racing teammates. Former Kings Royal winner Kerry Madsen has also made the trip to Washington to compete in the Dirt Cup. 

Five former Dirt Cup champions have entered the race: Dominic Scelzi, Jonathan Allard, Seth Bergman, Jason Solwold, and Brock Lemley.

Racing gets underway Thursday night with a full qualifying program and 30-lap preliminary feature on tap. Friday's schedule will once again include a full qualifying program and a 40-lap preliminary feature. Drivers will earn points throughout the two preliminary nights to help set the field for Saturday's 50-lap, $50,000-to-win main event.
