Why Larson Is Promoting Late Model Challenge

Defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is ready to have some fun with his Dirt Late Model friends Thursday night at Volunteer Speedway. The Kyle Larson Late Model Challenge Powered by Tezos will feature Larson and his NASCAR teammate William Byron battling a stout field of Dirt Late Model competitors.

Currently, 27 drivers are expected to compete in the $20,000-to-win event, including many of the biggest names in the sport.

Brandon Overton, the hottest Dirt Late Model driver during the 2021 season, will be in attendance looking to add another big victory to a list that includes a pair of Dirt Late Model Dream wins and a World 100 victory.

Defending Castrol FloRacing Night in America champion and four-time World 100 winner Jonathan Davenport is expected to join the fun as well. Davenport was the winner of the Castrol FloRacing Night in America season finale at Volunteer Speedway last October.

Chris Madden, the top Dirt Late Model driver in the country according to the DirtonDirt.com power rankings, will be in attendance looking to add to the over $220,000 in winner's checks he has collected this season. Dale McDowell, who slots in number two in the DoD power rankings, is also expected to be in attendance at a track he's had plenty of success at during his career.

The most polarizing figure in Dirt Late Model racing is also hoping to make his presence known as Volunteer Speedway. Scott Bloomquist will be behind the wheel of his Team Zero race car as he looks to return to victory lane for the first time since September 2020.

Other drivers entered include 2020 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series champion Jimmy Owens, 2021 Knoxville Nationals winner Mike Marlar, former World of Outlaws Late Model Series champion Shane Clanton and 2021 Silver Dollar Nationals winner Kyle Bronson.

A full list of drivers pre-entered for the event can be viewed below.

Grandstands open at 3 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon with hot laps scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.

Super Late Models will participate in qualifying, heat races and b-mains prior to the 50-lap main event.

Race fans unable to make it out to Volunteer Speedway will be able to watch the event live on FloRacing. If you're not already a FloRacing subscriber, click here to become one today.
