They say that there’s only two certainties in life, and those are taxes and death. But really, there’s actually three certainties in life: death, taxes, and Matt Hirschman fighting for wins in Tour-type Modified racing's biggest events.

Wednesday night at New Smyrna Speedway was the running of the John Blewett III Memorial 76-lap event, and it was Hirschman back in victory lane for the 200^th time in his legendary career.

“There’s a lot of people that have helped and have been involved from the beginning until now,” Hirschman said.

Winning the John Blewett III Memorial is special for any driver, even for Hirschman who has won this race multiple times.

“I raced against John. I was in the race the night John was killed at Thompson, so winning this race always hits a little closer,” Hirschman said. “Tonight is my 200^th win and I know that had I raced with John longer I wouldn’t be at 200 yet, because we were going to battle for a lot of wins and they would have went both ways.”

Hirschman started the race in the sixth position and took his time to get to the lead, but after he got there it was all about tire management on the abrasive New Smyrna surface.

As the laps wound down, Hirschman’s main competition became Jimmy Blewett, the younger brother of John, and the current World Series of Asphalt points leader for the Tour-type Modified division.

With about 20 laps to go, Blewett started to reel in Hirschman, and then was given a chance at a restart with 16 laps remaining.

However, Hirschman got the best of Blewett on the restart and was able to drive away to the victory by a one second over Blewett.
