The Race

This will be the third edition of the BC39, a race honoring the legacy of the late USAC champion Bryan Clauson.

The race will be 39 laps and pay $15,000 to the winner -- the largest payout in Midget racing.

Brady Bacon won the inaugural race in 2018 and Zeb Wise scored the win in 2019. The race was not held in 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Track

The Dirt Track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a quarter-mile oval that was built in 2018 prior to the inaugural BC39. The track is located inside turn three of the historical oval that hosts the annual Indianapolis 500.

The Format

The action will get underway Wednesday night with 12 heat races. Heat races will be 10 laps each with the starting lineups determined by the heat race “draft” on Tuesday night at USAC headquarters. Each car will gain points based on passes, which will determine starting position in the qualifying races on Thursday night.

Thursday's qualifying races will be 10 laps each with top-six starting positions inverted and the top point earner from Wednesday's heat races starting sixth.

Total points from the heat races and qualifying races will be added to set the feature starting lineup, along with transfers from the B-Main, C-Main and front of the D-Main races. The top 16 in points will make up the first eight rows of the main event.

The next six positions will be filled by the top six finishers in the B-Main. There will then be an option for provisionals for USAC and IMS.

The finish to the 2019 Stoops Pursuit was one to remember.

What Is The Stoops Pursuit?

The Stoops Pursuit, held on Wednesday night, provided one of the most wild finishes we've ever seen back in 2019.

The Stoops Pursuit is a 25-lap race split into five-lap segments. The field will include 24 starters – heat race winners plus the highest point earner in each heat are eligible, along with promoter’s options. The starting lineup is inverted by fastest heat race time, with promoter’s options starting at the rear. Every five laps, USAC will throw a competition flag, and cars with a net loss in position will be called to exit the track along with the last place car.

The last car standing when the final checkered flag waves will be named the winner.

Storylines

- Will Kyle Larson continue one of the most memorable years in motorsports history by scoring a big win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway? The NASCAR Cup Series points leader is fresh off a big win at the Knoxville Nationals.

How will the BC39 rookies fair in their first start? A strong contingent of young guns including Emerson Axsom, Daison Pursley and Buddy Kofoid will make their BC39 debuts this week.

Will we see our first BC39 repeat winner? Both former winners of the race, Brady Bacon (2018) and Zeb Wise (2019), are entered for the race and have to be considered amongst the favorites.

- How will the rest of the NASCAR Cup Series talent do? In addition to Larson, defending Cup champion Chase Elliott will be competing in his first BC39 after making his Chili Bowl Debut earlier this year.  Former Daytona 500 winner Ryan Newman and current NASCAR Rookie of the Year leader Chase Briscoe will also be competing.

- Can Tyler Courtney score a meaningful win in his hometown of Indianapolis? Driving for Clauson Marshall Racing, it would be a special moment if "Sunshine" could win the race in memory of the late Bryan Clauson.
