Cannon McIntosh doubled down on Monday, Kyle Larson scored Tuesday for a fourth-straight year, Rico Abreu dominated Wednesday for a fourth-straight year, and then Christopher Bell took Thursday’s for a SIXTH-STRAIGHT year, the most consecutive preliminary wins in Chili Bowl history.
His run to another Thursday triumph started from the fourth slot after winning his heat race and qualifier aboard the CB Industries, iRacing, Spike/Toyota No. 84X. With Bell in row two, polesitter Steve Buckwalter of Royersford, Penn. controlled the opening four circuits.
Swapping the lead with four different drivers over a handful of laps, Buckwalter bobbled and allowed Spencer Bayston of Lebanon, Ind. to lead the fifth lap in the RMS Racing No. 1S. Bayston brought Brady Bacon and Bell with him, as the battle tightened.
Passing Bayston twice, Bell’s move was negated each time, until the move finally stuck on lap ten when Bell launched a turn one slider on Bayston. From there, the No. 84X went completely unchallenged.
On lap 14, Buddy Kofoid of Penngrove, Calif. entered the picture and stole the second lock-in from Bayston. It remained close for second until the end, but Buddy hung on as Bayston faltered in lap traffic on the final lap giving a podium run to Bacon.
For Bell, it’s his seventh career Chili Bowl preliminary feature win and takes him to his eighth-career main event on Saturday night. For Kofoid, at 19-years-old, he’s finished 3rd-2nd in his only preliminary features in Tulsa, and now heads for his second main event.
Those heading to Saturday’s B-Main is Brady Bacon, Spencer Bayston, Joe B. Miller, Logan Seavey, Tim Buckwalter, and Trey Gropp.
Forced to the C-Main is Andrew Deal, Matt Sherrell, Kaylee Bryson, Frankie Guerrini, Carson Garrett, and Andrew Felker.
Catch up on everything from Thursday at the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl.
To the D-Main is Chance Crum, Sam Hafertepe Jr., Noah Gass, Kyle Bellm, Don Droud Jr, and Brody Roa. Falling to the E-Main is Steve Buckwalter, Cody Ledger, Zeb Wise, and Austin Prock.
