Stat Book: USAC Sprint Tri-State Showdown Edition

Another two races in the book over this past weekend and another one on the docket this Sunday, June 14 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind. lies ahead for the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship.

Much like the first weekend of events in February, in the long 112-day wait for the next slate of racing, the story remained the same with a winner sweeping both events of the weekend, but the faces and names have changed at the top of the statistical categories.

Justin Grant’s weekend sweep at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa and Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Mo. elevated him and TOPP Motorsports to the series point lead in both the driver and owner categories.  Grant’s 18th career victory also moved him into the top-30 all-time in terms of series feature wins ahead of Jerry Coons Jr., Parnelli Jones and Bud Kaeding.

Grant also led 59 out of a possible 60 laps in competition this week to take the lead in that category and tied two-time series champion Brady Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.) in the win category with two apiece.  Bacon won both ends of the Ocala, Fla. weekend in February.

Grant and 2017 series champ Chris Windom (Canton, Ill.) are the lone two drivers to have finished in the top-five of all four events run thus far while those two plus Bacon and 2019 champ C.J. Leary (Greenfield, Ind.) have recorded top-ten results in all four feature events in 2020.

Four different fast qualifiers have emerged throughout the first four events: Bacon, Leary, Windom and 2018 champion Tyler Courtney (Indianapolis, Ind.).

Grant, Logan Seavey (Sutter, Calif.), Carson Short (Marion, Ill.) and Kevin Thomas Jr. (Cullman, Ala.) have each won two heat races this year while 13 different drivers have taken the green flag in all four features run thus far.

Anton Hernandez (Arlington, Texas) remains the top Rookie in the point standings.  Bacon has been hard charger twice this year, both coming at Ocala, Fla., while Mario Clouser (Auburn, Ill.) made the biggest charge this weekend, coming from the 21st starting spot, and overcoming an early race flat tire, to finish 10th at I-55.

Pits open Sunday at 3pm Central, grandstands at 4pm and hot laps at 6pm.  Adult general admission tickets are $25 with children 12 and under free.

This, and all other USAC National events will be streamed live on FloRacing.
