After a short break, the FIA World Rallycross Championship is back this weekend with the World RX of Canada, round seven of the season at a circuit that has provided plenty of action over the years. Here’s six reasons to look forward to the Trois-Rivieres weekend...

Awesome Downtown Event

As part of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres weekend, the streets are filled with motorsport fans in all of the bars and restaurants. The atmosphere ramps up on Friday evening with the downtown event on the waterfront. That includes the Q1 grid draw on stage, with drivers meeting the fans with their cars after a parade through the streets and a number of other displays to get the action underway.

Passionate Fans

Rallycross was brand new to Canada when World RX was formed in 2014, but the fans at Trois-Rivieres have not only embraced the sport, but have become experts too. Throughout the weekend the grandstands on the asphalt sections, and from the Hippodrome on the loose middle section of the circuit are full with fans cheering for their favourite drivers.

Proper High Speed 'Street Circuit'

Until just days before the event, parts of the circuit at Trois-Rivieres are public streets. Just like at other famous street venues around the world, there’s no margin for error, with large concrete walls surrounding the circuit. Some of the World’s best rallycross drivers have been claimed by the walls in Canada, including names like Petter Solberg, Reinis Nitiss, Timmy Hansen and more…

Four Rounds To Go, Title Fight Is ON

Team Hansen MJP’s Timmy Hansen has won at Trois-Rivieres before, and might have beaten Johan Kristoffersson in 2018 apart from a mistake on lap one. He is second in the points, behind his team mate and brother Kevin Hansen. Third is Monster Energy RX Cartel’s Andreas Bakkerud, who showed great pace in round six at Holjes but couldn’t capitalise with a technical issue. Both drivers will be hunting down championship leader Kevin Hansen, the youngest of the three drivers who will need to manage the pressure of leading an FIA World Championship into the second half of the season.

GCK Out To Make Amends for 2018

The World RX of Canada last season was a weekend to forget for the GC Kompetition team. With its Renault Megane RS RXs, the team couldn’t find its usual pace and progress was slowed by damage from the Canadian circuit’s walls. Things are different for the team in 2019, both Sweden’s Anton Marklund and France’s Guerlain Chicherit have displayed podium pace at several races and will be hoping to make it into the top three in North America.

Doubling Up with ARX

Like in 2018, Americas Rallycross joins the party in Trois-Rivieres, hot off an super exciting weekend in Gateway just a couple of weeks ago. With a grid of cars that can all fight for victory and three different winners from the first three rounds of the season, ARX, and the ARX2 support-category, is sure to bring extra excitement to the Canadian fans.
