James McFadden, Brad Sweet Put Run-In At Salina Highbanks Behind Them
Brad Sweet and James McFadden are moving on from Saturday's run-in while battling for the High Limit Racing win at Salina Highbanks.
Brad Sweet and James McFadden have put Saturday’s Kubota High Limit Racing run-in at Salina Highbanks Speedway behind them as the tour’s Midweek Money Series heads to Riverside International Speedway on Tuesday night.
In short, Sweet had been in the midst of running down McFadden, the early leader, when the Grass Valley, California, superstar “misjudged” a monster run barreling into turn three on lap 10. While McFadden darted low, Sweet, too, pointed his car toward the same real estate.
The two drivers collided causing McFadden to go airborne and flip through the turn-four runoff area. He emerged from his race car okay and was credited with a 24th-place finish. Sweet, meanwhile, held off Tyler Courtney for his second-straight series win.

“First thing I want to say is, sorry to James McFadden there,” Sweet told High Limit pit reporter Tony Laporta in victory lane. “You never like to run into a guy racing for the lead. I had a good car. Honestly I misjudged him because I flat ran into him. Apologies to him. I never want to race that way, especially with a good friend on mine. NAPA Auto Parts Car was really good. I was honestly biding my time with James. The lines through lapped traffic were tricky.”
“As I said, it was a good win,” Sweet added. “Hated we got into James.”
While McFadden couldn’t finish the 31-lap feature (an extra lap was added because of a caution on the initial last lap), he appeared in good spirits breaking down the melee to Laporta, who interviewed the Australian over the FloRacing live stream moments after he emerged from his mangled car.
“Not ideal, but luckily we got really good safety gear,” McFadden said. “Yeah, I don’t know. Racing deal I guess. It all happens pretty quick. I don’t know if I crowded him or if he got a big run or something. I’m all good. We’ll live to fight another day.”
McFadden just completed his second full week racing stateside as his return to the U.S. from his native Australia had been held up due to travel issues. The Roth Motorsports driver has finishes of fifth, sixth, 10th, eighth and now 24th in five High Limit events.
Though Saturday’s win admittedly came at McFadden’s expense, Sweet has his Kasey Kahne Racing No. 49 team on the upswing. His weekend sweep of Southern Oklahoma Speedway on Friday and Salina Highbanks on Saturday marked the first time he scored wins on back-to-back nights since July 2-3 at Wisconsin’s Cedar Lake Speedway.
It’s amounted to Sweet now 14 points behind leader Tyler Courtney in the High Limit title race.
“These guys have really turned it around,” Sweet said Saturday in victory lane. “We were struggling there for a few races. Right now I feel like the car is phenomenal and it’s getting better throughout a race. Whatever they figured out, I’m looking forward to the next few races.”
High Limit Racing is back in action on Tuesday night for a Midweek Money Series stop at "The Ditch," Riverside International Speedway.
