Seven past Ted Horn 100 winners will be represented in Saturday’s 69th running of the Ted Horn 100 at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds in southern Illinois.
Defending Ted Horn 100 winner Logan Seavey (Sutter, California) leads the cast of 36 USAC Silver Crown entries for the one-mile dirt oval this weekend.
Seavey, who won two weeks ago at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, leads the series point standings entering the event, as he pursues his first series title.
Seavey’s main nemesis in the championship fight is Kody Swanson (Kingsburg, California), is a two-time winner of the event in 2010 and 2017, the first of which was his first career USAC Silver Crown victory. Swanson, a seven-time Silver Crown champion, trails Seavey in the 2023 title race by seven points.
Two-time Ted Horn 100 winner Shane Cockrum (Benton, Illinois) grew up and resides just down the road from the Magic Mile, where he had back-to-back wins in 2014 and 2015.
Further Ted Horn 100 winners in Saturday’s lineup include Peru, Indiana’s Russ Gamester (1997); Kansas, Illinois’ Shane Cottle (2007); Elkhart, Illinois’ Chris Urish (2013) and Crawfordsville, Indiana’s Jacob Wilson (2019).
Cockrum won the pole for last year’s Du Quoin event at a time of 30.417 seconds, translating to 118.355 mph.
Swanson captured the pole position in 2015, 2016 and 2021, while Cottle earned the top qualifying spot in 2007 and 2008.
Wilson scored top-qualifying honors in 2018, while Jerry Coons Jr. (Tucson, Arizona) aims for his first win in the event after winning the pole four previous times in his career at Du Quoin in 2001, 2010, 2013 and 2017.
USAC national champions Justin Grant (Ione, California) and C.J. Leary (Greenfield, Indiana) will be seeking their first Du Quoin victories, as will USAC national winners Davey Ray (Davenport, Iowa), A.J. Fike (Galesburg, Illinois), Chase Stockon (Fort Branch, Indiana) and Matt Westfall (Pleasant Hill, Ohio).
Two women will be in Saturday’s USAC lineup, with Taylor Ferns (Shelby Township, Michigan) making her return to Du Quoin for the first time in a decade. She finished fifth in 2013. Meanwhile, Kaylee Bryson (Muskogee, Oklahoma) will make her Du Quoin debut.
Bryson is one of 10 USAC Silver Crown rookies in the field, along with USAC National Sprint Car and Midget star Emerson Axsom (Franklin, Indiana), 360 Sprint Car legend Wayne Johnson (Tuttle, Oklahoma) and longtime sprint car veteran and USAC winner Dave Peperak (Clinton, Indiana).
Trey Osborne (Columbus, Ohio) takes his first try at a Silver Crown car this weekend, and he’s joined by series newcomers John Tosti (High Ridge, Missouri), Tim Simmons (Cabot, Arkansas), Trey Burke (Alvin, Texas), Ryan Thomas (Indianapolis) and Cary Oliver (Buncombe, Illinois), who made his first Du Quoin start in 2022.
USAC Silver Crown vets all across the field, including Mario Clouser (Auburn, Illinois), Du Quoin modified winner Kyle Steffens (St. Charles, Missouri), Patrick Lawson (Edwardsville, Illinois), Chris Fetter (Troy, Missouri), Travis Welpott (Pendleton, Indiana), Casey Buckman (Chandler, Arizona), Dave Berkheimer (Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania), Danny Long (Bonne Terre, Missouri), Patrick Bruns (Champaign, Illinois), Korey Weyant (Springfield, Illinois) and Tom Paterson (Argos, Indiana).
