An Update On Matt Hirschman Following Modified Crash At Thompson Speedway

Matt Hirschman will undergo surgery this coming Monday to repair a broken left ulna suffered in a crash during Wednesday's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, the ulna is the longer of two bones in the forearm.

Hirschman released the update on his recovery Friday afternoon via his social media accounts.

Hirschman was involved in an incident on Lap 91 of the Thompson 150 presented by FloSports. The incident occurred when Andrew Krause and Craig Lutz made contact on the backstretch, which resulted in a multi-car accident involving Hirschman, Kyle Bonsignore, Jake Johnson and Eric Berndt. Hirschman was running in the 11th position at the time of the accident.

On Thursday, Hirschman's team released an update indicating that Hirschman broke his left forearm and was awaiting further evaluation to determine the extent of injury and expected recovery.

Friday's update indicates that Hirschman will miss races at Chemung Speedrome and Evergreen Speedway this weekend.

Hirschman currently leads the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series points standings following a win last Saturday at New London-Waterford Speedbowl. The next event on the Tri-Track Modified schedule is the Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway on September 23.

Hirschman won all four Tour-type Modified races and the championship during this year's World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway. He also has NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour wins at Lee USA Speedway and Seekonk Speedway, as well as a SMART Modified Tour win at Florence Motor Speedway this season.
